Northern Territory General Practice Education (NTGPE) has been the sole medical education organisation in the Northern Territory for the Commonwealth Government's Australian General Practice Training program (AGPT) for over twenty years.

In 2017, the Federal Minister for Health, the Hon. Greg Hunt announced the AGPT Program would transition to the two general practice Colleges - Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM).

The transition to the new, national college-led GP training model was formalised by government in 2021 and successfully concluded in early 2023.

On 31 May 2023, NTGPE has ceased all of its business activities.

We thank all of our stakeholders throughout Australia and our partners within Northern Territory communities, medical training posts, traditional owners and Aboriginal elders, together with whom we reflect on the momentous achievements in medical education and provision of services across some of the most remote geographies and a great variety of cultures.

We acknowledge the great work and devotion of engaged personnel, our CEO Dr. Richard Zanner, and the executive team, the NTGPE board of directors and its Chairperson, Associate Professor Emma Kennedy, and appreciate their tremendous efforts.
