Orientation

All Students must attend an orientation before their placement. The exception to this is recent returning students. The cultural component of orientation, aims to provide students an introduction to Aboriginal culture, history and health. The medical orientation component covers rural and public health issues, tropical medicine and diseases specific to the NT region and NT demographics. Students learn about the importance of Aboriginal land and culture, kinship, bushtucker, bush medicines and issues around access to health services.

Students will also be introduced to “cultural shock “and living and working in rural and remote locations. Their specific questions will be answered in relation to placement locations and travel itineraries. Students will also be asked to telephone their placement location supervisor during orientation.

Orientation at both centres is held on specific dates throughout the year. Students must be able to attend an orientation before the commencement of their placement.
