Northern Territory General Practice Education (NTGPE) celebrated National Close the Gap Day by hosting a lunchtime BBQ at their Darwin office.

With approximately twenty staff in attendance event proceedings began with a Welcome to Country performed by NTGPE Senior Cultural Educator and Larrakia traditional owner Richard Fejo. Richard Fejo outlined NTGPEs work in Indigenous health and the continued need to establish partnerships between Indigenous communities and health services. A corroboree of dance, music and costume followed with NTGPE staff members participating in the traditional Tiwi dance ‘Kulpa’ as well as two contemporary dances.

The celebration of National Close the Gap Day is a testament of NTGPE’s continued support to Indigenous health and reconciliation following the launch of the NTGPE Reconciliation Action Plan on 23 January 2013.
